Singapore ArtScience Museum

Future World Exhibit

The ArtScience Museum in Singapore is in probably one of the most aesthetically beautiful, modern buildings around. It's in the shape of a lotus flower, the museum part I discovered is mainly underground. The museum is located in the Marina Bay area, take the MRT to the Bayfront station and then walk through the shopping mall. There are multiple signs that direct you to the museum.

Once you enter, the ticket office is actually downstairs, I spent a bit of time aimlessly walking around the Gift Shop wondering where to buy a ticket! The museum hosts different touring exhibitions, but at the time I visited it seemed to be a downtime between exhibitions and all that was available was the permanent 'Future World' one.

'Future World' is a collection of art installations divided into 4 themes, Nature, Town, Park and Space. The art installations are not the traditional type, it's all very multimedia with lights, sound, animation and movement. The first gallery of the Nature exhibition had an immersive installation called 'Crows' it lasts for 4 minutes with lights and animations plus evocative music of crows flying and chasing and being chased. It ends with flower explosions, these were the only parts I took photos of so I could really experience it all. Loved it!

The Town part had an interactive area where children could make their own townscapes.

Samples of children's work.

The Park area has aquarium images.

A light waterfall.

The final gallery is Space with the 'Crystal Universe' which was floor to ceiling lights that changed into different light patterns. You could walk through and look through the installation or watch it and the colours change just outside it.

The Crystal Universe was very pretty but what made me smile the most is the amount of young adults there posing and taking their 'instagram' pictures. The path through the lights was constantly blocked by people posing and their friends taking pictures!

Outside the museum is a lotus pond with the inspiration for the building the lotus flower.

The ArtScience Museum 'Future World' exhibition would be a great one to take children to when visiting Singapore. They would love all the colour and movement and it's all very interactive for them. There's even a slide with pictures projected onto it called the "Fruit Field'. For adults I personally found even though it was colourful, there wasn't that much really to engage us. Worth seeing but moreso if you can bring some children along!
