Boutique hotel within the walls of Valletta
Entrance
Palazzo Consiglia is a restored townhouse in the old town of Valletta. It was my favourite of all the hotels I stayed in on my recent trip. I love accomodation that is historic and has been restored to its former glory. The location within the walls of Valletta was perfect as well. There are only 13 rooms to the hotel so it feels rather homey and personal, the staff are quite chatty and interact with you, rather than just serve you.

Price
Malta isn't expensive and whilst this hotel looks rather luxurious the price is affordable. It's not a budget hotel, but not in the luxury hotel price range either.
Location
The hotel is situated in St Ursula's Street, it's in the old town of Valletta within the walls. It's a few minutes walk from the lower Barrakka Gardens and Fort St Elmo. (All of which I explored on my first afternoon in Valletta!) I discovered that it's in the quieter part of the old town, so not many people around, it was a shock when I saw the amount of tourists in the main part of the city! The ferry port is about a 15minute walk across the old town peninsula, and the bus station is 15 minutes walk out of the city walls. I did catch a taxi from the airport to the hotel and would recommend it, the fares are set and it saves dragging a suitcase over cobblestones and steep streets!
Palazzo Consiglia entrance from St Ursula Street, only a brass plaque on the outside of the townhouse identifying the hotel.
Facilities
There are 13 rooms, either superior for two people or deluxe rooms that have a sofa bed that can accomodate three people. There are two adjoining rooms that can be used as family accomodation and one room with disabled access. Each room is decorated in its own individual style, I was in a superior room on the first floor. This room had a Juliet balcony that looked out into the internal courtyard.
View from the Juliet balcony to courtyard and out to the street.
The room was equipped with a tablet that had concierge information and beach towels that could be used at the pool.
There is a rooftop pool, modest in size but considering the fact that there aren't a lot of guests in the hotel, I found that most afternoons there was no-one else at the pool. It was like having your own private pool! The pool area even has a view of the Grand Harbour.
The ground floor has a lounge, or a reading room where you can borrow and exchange books for some holiday reading.
There's a bar area, next to the lounge.
From the courtyard you enter these areas through another lounge area with a TV set up.
The hotel is quite compact and all the space is used effectively, including the cellars. These have been converted to a spa with treatment rooms, a stream room and a jacuzzi.
Summary
I loved staying in this hotel so much I'd consider going back to Malta just to stay here! Would highly recommend!
