Where to stay: Burnt Pine Boutique Apartments, Norfolk Island

Perfect place to stay!

Price

What you pay will depend of which apartments you choose, the cheapest is the studio apartment. The next level up is the one bedroom and then there are the two bedroom apartments, where each bedroom there has its own ensuite. I stayed in a studio apartment.

Location

The location was excellent, a few minutes from the airport, on the main street of the township of Burnt Pine. Restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarket all within easy walking distance. The Tourist Information office is across the road.

Facilities

It is 'boutique' there are 10 apartments in all, there's a swimming pool on site. The 'conservatory' is where breakfast is held each morning, there's an oven there for guests to use if you want to bake or roast something whilst on holidays! There's some easy chairs to sit and read with an assortment of books and magazines to borrow. Also a selection of DVDs, you do get some free wifi but Norfolk Island is remote so wifi is limited. The managers will organise car rental for you and the car will be waiting in an undercover area. There's a washing machine on site for long term guests to use and clothes lines to dry the clothes on. (More environmentally friendly!)

Each apartment has kitchen and cooking utensils and a small kitchen area.

There's a view down the valley and out to the ocean from the balcony.

Balcony view down to the sea

Optional Extras

A small mobile phone is provided to you if you need to receive or make calls while you are on the island. (If tour companies need to contact you, or you need help when driving around the island) There is a charge for the calls. The managers have tried to be environmentally conscious, there's a bucket in the shower to collect water. I then threw the water under the fruit trees outside. Cloth shopping bags are available to carry your shopping in. You can choose when to have your towels and linen changed by placing them in the laundry basket provided. The toilet paper is from a company that donates half its profits to sanitation charities around the world. (I buy the same paper so was impressed to see it!) The kitchen has a compost bucket for food scraps, a recycling bin and a bin for other rubbish.

Breakfast has homemade bread, different types most mornings. There's a selection of seasonal fruit, different cereals, a variety of spreads for your toast. Teas and coffee. When you leave you're given a homemade chocolate muffin to each on the plane, this was a lovely touch and have never stayed anywhere that gives you this kind of parting gift!

The managers will pick you up from the airport and drop you back at the end of your stay.

Summary

Loved everything about my stay here, right from when I entered the room and saw the hibiscus flowers decorating the room. The location was incredibly convenient, I liked being able to walk to places and then drive further afield. Communal breakfast was nice with other guests, everyone friendly and chatty. Managers helpful and personable and there's a manager on site if any problem arises. Will definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!
