Wonderful heritage hotel

I love a heritage hotel and would normally deliberately chose to stay in one over a more modern hotel. They generally have been updated but still have some unique old time features. The Park Hotel Laurin was opened in 1910 for the wealthy Austrians who would come and spend time in the Bolzano area, at the time it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Cost

Depending on what room you choose, it could be expensive. I initially booked a standard room but got upgraded to a nicer room.

Location

Great location, about 5 minutes walking distance from the train station, about 2 minutes walking distance from the main town square and the historic Old Town and the Duomo. Finally about 10 minutes walking from the gondola (ropeway) station that takes you up into the mountain to the area called Ritten.

Facilities

I had a very large room up on the fifth floor with great views of the mountains.

The room had a minibar and safe hidden away in the cupboard. There were guest robes and slippers.

There was a large bathroom with a combination shower and bathtub. Toiletries were provided, shampoo, hand lotion and shower gel, a shower cap and a basic manicure set.

The toilet was a separate room and it also contained a bidet and small washbasin.

Optional extras

The hotel had a pool with an outdoor bar, it has a beautiful garden area, the nicest one I've seen in an hotel. There are gravel paths to follow and a beautiful smelling rose garden. There's a back gate which takes you into a small laneway that directly goes into the main square.

The hotel has a restaurant and offers room service if you want to eat in your room. Breakfast was included in the price for me, it was a buffet breakfast and you could ask for omelettes or scrambled eggs to be made up for you. The buffet was great as it catered for different cultural groups' breakfast styles, with cereals, yoghurts, cut meats and cheeses, pancakes, pastries and fresh fruit.
